Catalogue (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a cozy app for collecting and journaling the real cats you meet. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built Catalogue to be private by default — your collection is yours.

Who we are

Information we collect

Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and the display name (username) you choose. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google profile (name, email). You may instead use the app as a guest, which creates an anonymous account and keeps your data on your device.
Content you create. The cats you log — nicknames, photos, notes, friendliness ratings, color/pattern and breed, sighting dates, collections, and any location you choose to attach to a cat.
Location. With your permission, your device’s location is used on your device to tag where you spotted a cat. We never share your precise location. If you choose to opt a cat into the optional Community Map (off by default; it requires several separate, explicit opt-ins), we publish only an approximate location that is deliberately offset by roughly 300 meters — your exact coordinates never leave your device.
Usage & device data. Through Google Firebase Analytics we collect anonymized app-interaction events, plus device model, operating-system version, app version, and coarse region, to understand how the app is used and to improve it.
Subscription status. If you purchase Catalogue Premium, Google Play Billing tells us whether your subscription is active. We never receive your payment-card details.

How we use your information

To provide the app: store your collection and sync it across your devices.
To enable features you turn on, such as public sharing and the Community Map.
To process and validate your Premium subscription.
To maintain security, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
To understand aggregate usage and improve Catalogue.

We do not sell your personal information, and Catalogue contains no third-party advertising.

How your information is stored and shared

Your data is stored on your device and, for signed-in accounts, with Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage) and Google Analytics for Firebase. Google processes this data on our behalf as our service provider; see Google’s Privacy Policy. Purchases are handled by Google Play Billing.

Sharing is always opt-in. Your cats are private unless you explicitly make a cat public, and the Community Map requires additional explicit opt-in per cat. When you share, only the content you choose is made visible to other users — plus, for the map, the fuzzed approximate location described above. We never publish your email, precise location, or private notes.

Your choices and controls

Keep everything private (the default), or make individual cats public — and turn them private again at any time.
Leave the Community Map off, or remove a cat from it whenever you like.
Decline or revoke the location permission in your device settings.
Delete your account and associated data at any time (see below).

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time — see our Account & Data Deletion page. Guest data lives only on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Children’s privacy

Catalogue is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including server-side security rules that restrict access to your own data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

International users

Your information may be processed on Google’s infrastructure in the United States and other countries where Google operates. By using the app you consent to this processing.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Effective” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
